If you are seeking an experience with cultural gravity, head to the lighthouse in Hanstholm.
Here, the man-made complex and the wild nature meet in a rarely-seen beauty. There is access to the lighthouse from 9 am to 9 pm every day year-round, and from the top, you have one of the most spectacular views on the Danish west coast.
THE LIGHTHOUSE
Open every day from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Admission: Adults 35 DKK, free for anyone under 18.
Payment can be made in cash or via MobilePay at the tower or in the shop.
Guests with a companion card are free of charge.
EXHIBITION ROOMS
The exhibitions are open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, as well as during holidays and vacations from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Admission grants access to both the lighthouse and the exhibitions.
All income goes toward maintaining the lighthouse and ensuring ongoing, exciting activities and exhibitions.
GROUP DISCOUNTS
Schools and kindergartens are always free.
Groups of 20-30 people: 600 DKK (save 450 DKK)
Groups of 31-40 people: 800 DKK (save 600 DKK)
Groups of 41-50 people: 1,000 DKK (save 750 DKK)
THE BOATHOUSE – NATIONAL PARK THY’S NORTHERN STEPPING STONE
Prepare properly for a trip across Northern Europe’s largest heathland, open every day from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. You are also welcome to enjoy your packed lunch here, sheltered from eventual wind and rain.
TOURIST INFORMATION
You will find tourist info in the eastern wing of the lighthouse complex, the first door as you arrive. The tourist information is unmanned.
LIGHTHOUSE RESIDENTS
In the lighthouse’s apartments and workshops, artists and professionals seeking focus can live and work for short periods. Some are happy to show what they’re working on, while others need peace. Be curious, but please respect our residents.

Always worth a visit
The lighthouse over the industrial port of Hanstholm is always worth a visit. The view is amazing.
If you are visiting Thy, it may well feel like there is far between the various attractions.

– even when we are otherwise closed
There is always access to the lighthouse from 9 am to 9 pm.
Even outside the opening hours of our exhibitions, you can experience Hanstholm Lighthouse, and its wild surroundings – including the new Thy National Park Boathouse in the garden.
During the exhibition season, we present international art of high caliber both outdoors and indoors and sometimes also around Hanstholm town.
Our exhibition attendants are excellent guides to local life, and in our café area, you can find information about Thy National Park and all our many other friends in the area.
If you can’t get enough of Hanstholm Lighthouse, it is possible to book one of our apartments right up to the lighthouse with views of the North Sea, the church and the lighthouse courtyard.
Every day is different at Hanstholm Lighthouse. If you have been here once, something probably will have changed since your last visit.
The colours, views, weather and art change according to the season. Even though the place has stood for more than 175 years, your experience will still be unique.
You will take a unique side of Hanstholm home with you in your luggage – whether it’s an encounter with the art, the view from the top of the tower, the chat with the lady at the door or the presence of nature that you are most into.

The people at the lighthouse, staff, as well as volunteers, are part of the self-governing cultural institution The North Atlantic Lighthouse in Hanstholm. Together we work for the place to be open, accessible, well-cared-for and professional.
Our art program varies with alternating exhibitions of different genres and formats through out the season.
Hanstholm Lighthouse was the first lighthouse to be erected on the Danish west coast. The lighthouse is still functioning and provides a crucial insight into maritime traffic around the maritime nation of Denmark. Locally, the lighthouse is a landmark for the area and a vital part of our identity and self-understanding.
Whether you want to go up the lighthouse or whether you come to encounter the art or you want to experience both the lighthouse and art, it only costs you DKK 35.
The North Atlantic Ligthouse in Hanstholm is a non-profit organisation. all revenue goes directly back into the operation and development of the site.
